Right in between the royal residences of Vincennes and Fontainebleau, Vaux-le-Vicomte was built by a 26 years old parliamentarian named Nicolas Fouquet in 1641. Fifteen years later the first stone of a unique masterpiece was laid; it was to be the finest château and garden in France. This unic construction was designed and built under the control of three genius of architecture, decoration and garden: Le Vau, the painter-decorator Le Brun and the landscape gardener Le Nôtre. Such a jewel building made the king so jealous that Nicolas Fouquet ended up in jail where he died, but the chateau survived and stands as a symbol of intelligence, taste and creativity.
